Myriame

Myriame comes from Madagascar and has been known to Michael and Pauline Mewis for some 30 years. They first met her when they were on holiday in Madagascar and were so impressed by her involvement with destitute people, particularly with children. She was really poor when they first met her but used what she made to help people. They raised a fund to enable her to come to the UK and sent her back home with £ 500.00. Myriame thought it was all over but Michael and Pauline continued to send her £100.00 per year. She remembered Michael telling her gently to use what she has to serve the people around her which she actually did. She reported to her donors in UK and these latter ones were surprised as the total amount of expenditures she reported was far beyond what was sent to her.

Indeed as she kept on giving by faith, the Lord extended her territory. She shifted from being a secondary school teacher to a teacher trainer position and also a lecturer at the university. Then by God’s grace she became a sworn translator and interpreter to the courts of Madagascar, which allowed her to invest more in God’s field. Indefatigable, she has become a one woman aid agency because of her deep faith, no challenge is too great for her. When her benefactors in UK saw that, the amount they sent to her shifted from £ 100.00 to £ 1,500.00 per year but still Myriame’s annual report stood up to some £ 3,500.00 per year as whatever she made went to her ministry.

Currently she helps about 300 children especially for their registration fees at the beginning of the school fees , but she also supports children in the country side who have completed their primary education and have to go to another village to access secondary education far from their families. If Myriame can spot teenagers with potential who cannot afford to go the state university, she sends them to private universities after making them promise they would look after destitute young people around them when they make it. Up to now, four of them majored in accounting, IT engineering, communication and management.

She continues to feed the street children and 12 of them have lunch at her place every day except on the weekend. Besides, Myriame has a Bible school gathering some 75 children of her neighbourhood every Saturday who are provided Bible lessons and a decent lunch and bread and diluted milk in her yard. But on the main Christian celebrations that is Christmas, Easter and Pentecost, she takes some 150 children in droves to her kitchen and helps them with a proper lunch with a starter, a main course and dessert during which they can help themselves as much as they can.

Myriame also helps a group of skilled embroiderers made up of single mothers and battered women and provides a pension of £ 4.00 each to about 12 elderly people.
