Charities
In 2019 Flowergate Church and its members supported a range of some ten Charities including:
British Legion and Combat Stress,
Barnabas,
Children in Distress,
URC Friendship Fund,
Myriame (see details of her Charitable work in Madagascar)
We also set up a 'pot' from Preaching Fees that many of our visiting Lay Preachers refuse to take. This is set aside in a separate 'pot' and our members at our AGM decide which Charities should benefit from the generosity of these Preachers. In 2019 four Charities were nominated: Bible Society, Smile Train, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Water Aid. Each of these four received £150 from this 'pot'.
In 2019 the total of our donations to charitable organisations was over £1400. We were unable to continue our charitable giving while the church was closed during the pandemic, but since the church was re-opened we have continued to support some of these charities again. More recently, additional charities we have supported are St Catherine's Hospice and The Salvation Army. In 2021-2022 our Charity Donations totalled £1705.
